Exit Visa Notice
Bekanntmachung über die vorübergehende Wiedereinführung des Ausreisesichtvermerks
Notice on the Temporary Reintroduction of the Exit Visa
Dated the day of the boycott of Jewish businesses and published two days later, Frick’s notice required every German citizen to obtain an exit visa before leaving the Reich, ‘until further notice’, from 4 April 1933. The visa was free of charge and valid for one month for a single journey or up to six months for repeated journeys. It gave the authorities a check on everyone leaving Germany at the moment when political opponents and Jews were beginning to flee.

About this text
The full text is given. Transcribed from the RGBl. scan (issue 30, p. 160); no independent transcription was found to compare against. The specimen visa in the annex, printed as an 8 × 8 cm form with the alternatives ‘ein’/‘mehr’ and the two ‘über’ lines set one above the other, is given as running text, with ‘/‘ between the alternatives and the stamp field in square brackets; the form is set in roman type, not Fraktur.
The English translation was made for this site and is not an official translation. ‘Bekanntmachung’ (literally ‘announcement’) is rendered as ‘Notice’; it was a binding order of the minister under the Passport Ordinance, which is why the day pages call it an ordinance. ‘Sichtvermerk’ is rendered as ‘visa’.
German laws and decrees are official works and not protected by copyright (§ 5 UrhG).

- Reichsangehörige
- Reich citizens: persons holding German nationality, whatever their religion or political views.
